'PAPUA NEW GUINEA' BOX MAR. 2023
‘PAPUA NEW GUINEA’ BOX…
Don't miss our featured Papua New Guinea coffee this month from the best roasters in NYC, Chicago, and Jackson, MS. These beans are grown in the highlands, resulting in a fruity and acidic taste, along with a rare smoky and earthy flavor from sun-drying. It's a one-of-a-kind coffee that's highly sought-after due to its limited availability in only a few remote areas of Papua New Guinea.

Mikey Rinaldo, an Indonesian native, discovered craft coffee while studying literature. After becoming a Q grader in 2016, they worked for several coffee roasters, including Due South Coffee Roasters, Passion House Coffee Roasters, and Metric Coffee. They founded New Math Coffee to highlight Asia's potential as a specialty coffee origin and promote greater appreciation for Asian coffee producers.

This high-elevation washed coffee is the second lot sourced from Baroida Estate in Papua New Guinea, a favorite producer of the Colbran family. Although not as complex as the anaerobic lot, it still exhibits lovely acidity and cleanness with crisp flavors reminiscent of green apple and apricot. The aroma is sweet and compelling with notes of brown sugar, clover honey, and peach skins. The coffee offers dense and complex flavors of sugary-sweet ripe cantaloupe and red pear when hot, deeper flavors of rooibos tea, red apple, and lemon as it cools, and lingering flavors of sticky-sweet raisins and honey at near room temperature. Overall, this coffee provides an amazing experience with multiple layers of flavor.

The Papua New Guinea Nebilyer Valley coffee is from family-owned farms located in the Tambul-Nebilyer District of the Nebilyer Valley in Papua New Guinea. These producers cultivate coffee on small areas of land ranging from 1 to 2 hectares. After the coffee is fully washed, it is sun-dried at the Kuta mill, which has been operational for more than four decades. The mill, situated between the Ulga and Kolga tribes, serves as a unifying location for traditionally conflicting producers. Additionally, the mill owner, Brian Leahy, offers a bonus payment to farmers who consistently provide high-quality cherries following the harvest.

Mile High is the A grade offering from the Arokara Co-op. Grown in the Eastern Highlands of Papua New Guinea on the outskirts of a town named Kianantu, each cherry is hand picked and pulped the same day. After a 36 hour fermentation process the coffee is washed with fresh water and then sundried for anywhere between 7-12 days. Once the beans achieve their signature blue- green hue they are ready for shipment.
Mile High A has a bright acidity and creamy body. There is a malted caramel aroma with light notes of citrus
