  • Kahawa 1893, a coffee roaster with deep roots in African history, was founded to empower Kenyan women coffee farmers. The name "Kahawa" means "coffee" in Swahili, and the year 1893 marks the return of coffee to Africa after its global journey. Founder Margaret Nyamumbo grew up in a coffee farming community and witnessed firsthand the inequalities faced by women, who provided 90% of the labor but owned only 1% of the land. After studying in the USA, Margaret returned to Kenya with innovative ideas to bring Kenyan coffee to the world while supporting women farmers. By choosing Kahawa 1893, you are contributing to a mission that empowers women in the coffee industry and ensures they reap the rewards of their hard work.

  • Gasharu Coffee, partnering with Kahawa 1893, offers a single origin coffee rich in flavor, history, and story. Grown on the shores of Kivu with ideal weather conditions, this coffee presents delightful tasting notes of citrus, honey, and brown sugar. The company's history is deeply intertwined with Rwanda's past, as founder Celestin Rumenerangabo and his family survived the Rwandan genocide, and upon their return, revived Gasharu Coffee, now working with 1,650 local farmers, 70% of whom are women.
